Summer is here and with the sun, heat and sweat comes a desire to keep looking good even when you can’t cool down. Now due to the change in season and temperature, you probably won’t be using all of the same beauty products that you did during winter or even spring. That’s where we come in: here’s our list of beauty essentials for the warm, summer months to keep you looking and feeling good.

Makeup

While your core makeup may stay the same, this is something that changes from season to season. From colors to texture and more, switching up your makeup helps you try new things and find the best product for that time of year.

The first essential for your summer makeup look is a lightweight foundation. This is crucial in the heat since when you sweat, the light foundation won’t mess up your skin like a heavier one could. Aveda has their Inner Light Mineral Tinted Moisture product that comes in different tones with organic ingredients to increase radiance and provide moisture.

Another crucial product is waterproof mascara. Whether you’re heading to the water for some summer fun or sweating after hours in the sun, waterproof mascara and makeup, in general, is a must-have. It will come in handy for many summer activities you’ll enjoy this year.

Finally, while texture and product purpose are important for different seasons, color matters just as much. In the winter dark colors are more popular, but in the warmer months try out lighter lip colors to match the theme of the season.

Hair Care

During the summer months, your hair can take a beating from sun damage to water exposure from chemicals like chlorine. Fortunately, there are products to help protect your hair from these different exposures and keep your hair healthy.

This time of year makes it easier for your hair to collect knots, for example after hours at the beach. So, avoid the struggle of trying to get out those knots and have leave-in detangler at the ready.

After your hair is exposed to the sun for extended periods of time, it can get damaged. Invest in a hair repair product like Aveda’s Sun Care After-Sun Hair Masque, which will moisturize your hair after its sun exposure. You should be enjoying the sunny weather this year, so just take the extra step to repair your hair, it’ll thank you!

If you don’t want to wait until your hair is exposed to the sun to protect it, then you can purchase a protective hair spray. Aveda’s Sun Care Protective Hair Spray is a lightweight mist that you can spray to protect your hair from UV rays while minimizing damage and dryness before you step foot in the sunlight.

Skin Care

Your makeup look and hair care are very important this summer but don’t forget that it’s just as crucial to take care of your skin when it's exposed to the sun. Our final set of essentials cover your skincare to keep you healthy and your skin looking young.

Our first product that may not come as no surprise is sunscreen. Whenever you’re in the sun, even if it’s for 30 minutes, you should be applying sunscreen as the sun is even stronger this time of year. Many moisturizers even come with a small SPF to give you some protection. Our advice: layer a stronger sunscreen to avoid the painful sunburn and the consequences of exposure to UV rays.

No matter the season, washing your face with a cleanser that works with your skin is crucial. During the summer though, it’s more important to be consistent to get

rid of the sweat and dirt that easily gets into your pores. Aveda has a cleanser called Botanical Kinetics Purifying Gel Cleanser that works with normal to oily skin to foam away oil and other particles.

Finally, one of the products that is considered one of the most important is SPF chapstick. You may not realize that your lips can get sunburnt too. Even though you may haven’t experienced it, it can still happen, so we recommend you wear a chapstick with SPF when you’re going to be exposed to the sun for long periods of time.
