Philadelphia
If you’re looking for a different experience than a traditional lodge getaway in the mountains, you can drive a bit further to find yourself celebrating the winter in the city. You’re still able to take part in outdoor activities like ice skating at Blue Cross RiverRink as well as escape the cold with Philadelphia’s many museums that offer a variety of deals for different days of the week. Fourth of July isn’t only the perfect time of year to spend in America’s Birthplace.

The Adirondacks in Upstate New York are the furthest drive on this list, so this locale could require a longer stay than a couple days. If that’s what you’re looking for though, Lake Placid is a quaint, beautiful winter getaway. It’s the home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics, making it historic with Olympic sites to tour as well as home to trails for skiing, snowshoeing and more. Between the town to walk around, shop and eat, and the outdoor activities, Lake Placid offers a home away from home for winter and snow lovers.
